Seventh In Shanghai Not A Fluke – Ricciardo

Toro Rosso’s Daniel Ricciardo is adamant that his seventh place at April’s Chinese Grand Prix, was not a fluke and demonstrates his abilities, despite being in a car which is not expected to be a regular in the top ten. He does however believe that to back up his view, he has to repeat, or better, the feat.

“I think we definitely have to do it again to, to know where we are.” He said.

“We finished seventh and we qualified on seventh pretty much on merit. I don’t think we got lucky. I think we were going to be quite competitive. I think we finished seventh because we had the speed.

“It could be a one-off circuit – you never know – so we want to do it again to really know if that’s what we’ve got, but I think that was a true indication of our speed.”

The Aussie surprised the paddock by grabbing a seventh in Qualifying in China, notably Jenson Button who when told about Ricciardo’s advancement to Q3, commented “Ricciardo? Wow!”

Now Daniel’s comments come at the same time as Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz told reporters that Ricciardo would be a good driver to partner World Champion Sebastian Vettel in the senior Red Bull team.

With Mark Webber’s contract, as usual, up for a one-year renewal in the summer months aswell as the Multi-21 incident and Webber’s rumoured switch to Porsche for 2014, it might finally be game over for Mark and time to shine for his fellow country-man Ricciardo.
