Michael Schumacher’s manager says the 45-year-old is now out of his coma and has left the hospital in Grenoble.
Schumacher sustained serious head injuries during a ski fall on December 29th and had been in a medically induced coma since. Doctors began efforts to wake him from his coma a month later.
“Michael has left the CHU Grenoble to continue his long phase of rehabilitation. His is not in a coma anymore,” read a statement released by his management this morning.
“His family would like to explicitly thank all his treating doctors, nurses and therapists in Grenoble, as well as the first aiders as the place of the accident, who did an excellent job in those first months.”
“For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye.”
Schumacher is Formula One’s most successful driver, with seven World Championships over his twenty-one year career.
