Irvine Sentenced Over Italian Nightclub Fight

Eddie Irvine has been sentenced to six months in prison for a fight at a nightclub in Italy.

Irvine injured the son of the mayor of Milan at the Hollywood club in Milan in 2008. The other man involved in the fight, Gabriele Moratti, was also sentenced for his part in the scuffle. Each man had sued the other for assault and battery, with Irvine suffering an ear injury.

However, it is believed that both parties will be handed suspended sentences, meaning neither man will actually serve any time in prison.

Irishman Irvine drove for Ferrari, Jordan and Jaguar between 1993 and 2002, the close runner up to the World Championship in 1999. His four career victories were all taken in 1999.
