Kimi Raikkonen will not take part in the final two races of the 2013 calender.
Raikkonen’s management broke the news to Finnish Turun Sanomat saying that he has to undergo an operation for the back pain which has affected him since the Singapore Grand Prix. It is quite convenient for Ferrari, the team with which he will race next year, as they are locked in a battle with Lotus for third.
The Lotus camp has been unsettled in the second part of the season, with Raikkonen publically accusing Lotus of not paying him due to economic problems at the team. However, a sponsorship deal recently reached with Quantum suggested that Raikkonen would see out the entire season with Lotus.
Lotus will most likely hand Davide Valsecchi Raikkonen’s seat for the upcoming United States and Brazilian rounds.
Ironically, Kimi’s team-mate to-be is also suffering with back pain following his 15G trip over the kerbs at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last weekend.
