Sato Confirmed As Sauber Reserve For Japan

Kimiya Sato will step in as Sauber’s reserve driver at the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend.

The 24-year-old (who is of no relation to the former F1 driver turned IndyCar racer Takumo Sato) was given a test role with Sauber at the Young Driver Test at Silverstone in July, and will also take part in a straight line test for the same team in Italy on October 18th.

Kamui Kobayashi, the last Japanese driver to drive in F1, took his sole podium at the Suzuka round last year with Sauber.
