Q2 Report

Kimi Raikkonen was the first man to leave the pits during Q2. The Finn was soon followed out by Nico Rosberg and Felipe Massa, the latter struggling with grip all weekend. Raikkonen set a benchmark lap which was soon bettered by both Nico Hulkenberg and Fernando Alonso. Next, both Mercedes drivers came out for a lap and went fastest, Rosberg ahead of Lewis, by six-tenths of a second over Alonso, while running used super-soft tyres.

Vettel was keen to reassert his dominance over the grid and started his fastest lap when the Mercedes duo rolled into the pits. The reigning World Champion was half a second up mid-way through his lap and was .987 up by the time he crossed the finishing line. In the sister Red Bull, Webber slotted in second, eight-tenths behind Vettel. Webber’s 2014 replacement Daniel Ricciardo moved himself up to fourth provisionally whilst Vergne took ninth. Each McLaren had only one timed lap apiece with Button slipping into the top ten but Perez being knocked out from fourteenth. Kimi Raikkonen may have been put off by his back pain, en route to Qualifying thirteenth while Nico Hulkenberg and Jean-Eric Vergne were eleventh and twelfth. Adrian Sutil was fifteenth and Valtteri Bottas was sixteenth.
