Q1 Report

Pastor Maldonado was the first man to take to the track for the first of the three Qualifying sessions at the Singapore Grand Prix, and was followed out by Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen – the latter complaining of back pain. Maldonado set the opening time before Hamilton took top honours, which was then taken by team-mate Rosberg. Nico Hulkenberg came out on the softer compound tyres and became the new fastest driver.

Vettel’s first timed lap put him second behind Hulkenberg, while Webber crossed the line and went fastest by a tenth, soon bettered by Rosberg as he returned to the top again. The top time would be changed several times before the checkered flag flew. On the other end of the field, Felipe Massa was in the drop-zone until his last lap which set him thirteenth. Paul di Resta was not so lucky, dropping out of the first session for the fifth time in eight races. Pastor Maldonado joined him in the drop-zone with eighteenth, Charles Pic was nineteenth, Giedo van der Garde twentieth, Jules Bianchi twenty-first and Max Chilton twenty-second, and last.
