Sebastian Vettel stayed on top at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza on Saturday morning, but had his lead halved by Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. Whilst Vettel topped team-mate Webber by six-tenths in FP2, Alonso was three-tenths behind him. Webber was marginally behind Alonso while Lewis Hamilton put in a late lap to finish fourth. Sergio Perez and Daniel Ricciardo impressed with fifth and sixth respectively while Felipe Massa advanced to seventh. Jenson Button was eighth for McLaren, with Pastor Maldonado and Kimi Raikkonen rounding up the top ten.

Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne was eleventh, followed by the Sauber duo of Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Gutierrez, the Lotus of Romain Grosjean and the Williams of Valtteri Bottas in fifteenth. The Force India duo were next up, Paul di Resta trumping Adrian Sutil who took seventeenth ahead of the Caterham of Charles Pic and his team-mate, Giedo van der Garde. The Marussia duo were twentieth and twenty-first, Jules Bianchi ahead of Max Chilton, while Nico Rosberg suffered an overheating issue which left him restricted to the garage for the entire session, finishing twenty-second.
