Singapore Removes ‘Singapore Sling’

The organisers of the Singapore Grand Prix have removed the troublesome ‘Singapore Sling’ corner at the circuit.

The turn 10 double chicane at Marina Bay circuit has been the recipient of much critcism for it’s poor construction. Given the unusual space at that particular section of the street circuit, organisers faced problems in building the track through there and eventually elected to build the double chicane.

However, it’s mixture of high speed with tight, high kerbs have led to several accidents such as Kamui Kobayashi’s 2011 airborne adventure during Qualifying.

The Sling has been replaced with a left hand corner as part of a  larger resurfacing project to remove bumps on the track surface.
