Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was the fastest man in this morning’s Free Practice One session at the German Grand Prix. The Briton lined up ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg to make it yet another 1-2 for the team. Red Bull’s Mark Webber who claimed his first win at the Nurburgring in 2009, was just over a second shy of Hamilton’s fastest lap and took third on the time sheets ahead of Germany’s Adrian Sutil. Kimi Raikkonen was fifth overall while Ferrari’s Felipe Massa took sixth, followed by McLaren’s Jenson Button in seventh and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in eighth. Romain Grosjean and Sergio Perez filled out the top ten.
Paul di Resta was eleventh for Force India ahead of Nico Hulkenberg for Sauber and the Toro Rosso duo of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne who finished thirteenth and fourteenth respectively. The Williams duo were next in line to take fifteenth and sixteenth, Pastor Maldonado ahead of Valtteri Bottas, while Esteban Gutierrez took seventeenth for Sauber. Charles Pic was best of the backmarkers when he finished eighteenth for Caterham while Max Chilton was nineteenth, Giedo van der Garde twentieth and Rodolfo Gonzalez twenty-first as he took over the morning session from Jules Bianchi. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso was dead-last having ground to a halt almost as soon as he joined the track for his installation lap this morning – something that will definitely cost the Spaniard in the long run this weekend.
