Formula One took to the streets of Jerusalem yesterday, Thursday, for a demo including Ferrari and Marussia, who were joined by several other racing series.
Giancarlo Fisichella was on hand to drive the 2009 Ferrari F60 through the streets in front of an estimated 60,000 strong audience, and he was followed by Rodolfo Gonzalez who took the Marussia model for a tour of Jerusalem.
Fisichella, in particular, was a fan favourite, taking the Ferrari up to 200km/h over the 2.8km circuit in three separate runs, aswell as performing the usual crowd pleasers – some burnouts and practice starts.
“It was really a fantastic and incredible feeling.” said the Italian. “Driving in front of so many people in such a historic place was very exciting – as, indeed, was visiting the Old City this morning. It’s been a truly memorable day for me.”
Former F1 racer Vitantonio Liuzzi was present at the event, demonstrating both the Audi DTM car and the Lotus LMP2 model.
The event continues today, with a four Ferrari parade through the city as one of the highlights.
