Sebastian Buemi has hinted that he will keep his role as Red Bull’s reserve driver for 2014.
The Swiss was taken from the Toro Rosso sister team during a reshuffle at the end of 2011, and given the role with Red Bull where he currently remains.
In an interview with 20min.ch, he was asked if he was looking to return to a full time race seat and Buemi said “Clearly — 100 per cent. But the goal is also to race, so it’s a very good compromise with Toyota [at Le Mans]: I can race and stay with Red Bull.”
“It looks good that it [the contract] will be extended.” he added. “I’ve been in the car for about seven days (so far) this year, which is not much. I hope next year it’ll be more.”
While Buemi may be hopefully lingering in the wings, with Mark Webber strongly suspected to leave the team at the end of this year, it’s Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen who is expected to replace the Aussie.
