Mercedes have become the most recent team to show their hand to the world, unveiling the MGP W04 at Jerez, where the first of three pre-season tests kick off tomorrow.
Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were at the launch in front of the media before Lewis Hamilton, who is joining the team this year, sat back to watch his German team-mate take the new Mercedes for a sample run around Jerez.
The livery is identical to its 2012 counterpart, the big change being the use of the vanity panel to hide the stepped nose, as Lotus and McLaren have also demonstrated. Another minor difference is the Blackberry logo which the team are now running with, having announced a sponsorship deal with the communications giant.
A revolutionary reveal was put into action by Mercedes who featured a virtual garage on their website. With every tweet containing the “#F1Wo4Reveal” hashtag, the garage door would lift ever so slightly higher, revealing more of the car. The launch was met with criticism from fans after the website crashed on Saturday. On Sunday when the garage door was fully raised, the car was unlit with only a faint outline visible.
Rosberg will take the Mercedes out in Jerez again tomorrow when he tests the car before handing the WO4 over to Hamilton for a further two days of testing.
