Luiz Razia will partner Max Chilton at Marussia for 2013.
The Brazilian has been strongly linked with Marussia since Timo Glock left the team by ‘mutual agreement’ two weeks ago. It’s been revealed that the reason behind Glock’s departure was due to his inability to pay for a drive at the cash-strapped team, which has seen the German now move to DTM with BMW.
It was also announced that Marussia had decided on a second driver who would pay for his place at the team, but they had not yet announced who it was.
Brazilian media reported last Thursday that Razia was the new second driver but neither Razia nor Marussia made a comment. Razia’s website was then updated on Friday to say he was a race driver with Marussia for 2013. It has taken Marussia almost a week to confirm this, Razia absent from the car’s launch on Tuesday morning.
He took the Marussia out on track today, finishing at the bottom of the table 2.2 seconds off closest driver Giedo van der Garde in the Caterham.
