The 2013 cars are to hit the track in Jerez in just over a week but one driver who wont be there is Fernando Alonso.
Usually a team will run both drivers twice over the four test days but Ferrari today announced that they would be bringing Felipe Massa and Pedro de la Rosa to the first pre-season test.
“It will fall to Felipe Massa to give the car that Ferrari will use in this year’s Formula 1 World Championship its track debut” read a statement on the team’s website. “Felipe will stay on track until 7 February before handing over to Pedro De La Rosa, who will thus make his debut at the wheel of a Ferrari” it continued.
“In the meantime and throughout all the first part of February, Fernando Alonso will intensify his physical training, in preparation for a first part of the season” the press release said.
Felipe Massa will be gearing up to a season of intense pressure as he tries to match his improved performance in the second part of 2012. Pedro de la Rosa is returning to another season as a test driver following HRT’s collapse at the end of last season.
Pre-Season testing in Jerez gets underway on Monday February 4th.
