Desert Storm – Vettel disqualified from Qualifying

Sebastian Vettel will be starting from the pitlane for tomorrow’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after Race Stewards cruelly stripped him of his 3rd place post qualifying. And, It only took them 3 hours and 20 minutes to do it!

The reigning World Champion was forced to pull over on the track between T18 and T19 on his in-lap after Qualifying and it has now been revealed that this was due to a lack of fuel in the Red Bull.

There had been speculation rising in the paddock that Vettel would be disqualified after Ted Kravitz voiced his suspicions on Sky F1. A similar thing happened to Lewis Hamilton in Catalunya back in May when he took pole position ahead of Pastor Maldonado. The Brit, who took pole position today, was disqualified from the session, promoting Pastor Maldonado to pole position, just before he won his first Grand Prix. As a result of Vettel’s penalty, Maldonado will start in P3.

This could have massive implications on the drivers championship. With Fernando Alonso starting in 5th, If he can score big points, he could actually stop Vettel getting the championship that he seemed so sure to win.
