Felipe Massa has renewed his contract at Ferrari following on from some strong performances recently, including his first podium in 2 years, at the Japanese Grand Prix just over a week ago.
At the start of the season, the 2008-World Championship runner-up, was warned that he had half a season to save his seat. He failed miserably though, often running well outside of the points. At Silverstone though, just at the halfway point of the season, he recovered and finished in 4th place. He has been relatively strong since, culminating in a fantastic 2nd in Japan and a 4th in Korea, being told to ‘preserve his tyres’ when he was catching his team-mate Fernando Alonso in 3rd place.
But interestingly, he has singed a one-year extension with the team which plays right into the hands of speculators who believe that Sebastian Vettel will join the Prancing Horse in 2014 – https://bensweeneysf1blog.wordpress.com/2012/10/15/sebastian-vettel-to-join-ferrari-in-2014/
“I’m extremely happy with this agreement. Ferrari is my sporting family and I’ve always raced in Formula 1 with engines built-in Maranello: I can’t see myself at the wheel of a single-seater powered by other engines” said the Brazilian.
Team principal Stefano Domenicalli said – “We are pleased to have extended our relationship with Felipe for a further year, He has been part of our family for over a decade and has shown, especially in this recent part of the season, that he is once again competitive at the highest level, which is what is expected of every driver who gets behind the wheel of a Ferrari.”
