Force India co-owner Vijay Mallya has had an arrest warrant issued against him after his Kingfisher Airlines company was grounded with debts reported to amount to billions.
Then warrant was issued on Friday in the Indian City of Hyderabad. It was issued after Mallya’s cheques amounting to £1.25million which Kingfisher gave to the company controlling the Hyderabad International Airport, bounced. Mallya failed to appear in court despite a summons.
Ironically, the F1 circus will travel to New Delhi in two weeks for only the 2nd Indian Grand Prix where Mallya’s financial standing will likely be a major talking point.
Mallya’s debt shouldn’t be a big problem to Force India as he is only a co-owner of the team who this year employs Paul Di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg.
