Dutch GP2 runner-up Gierdo van der Garde has not given up on trying to get a F1 seat in 2011. Garde and his management are confident that he can secure a seat, Possibly with Hispania.
With all drivers such as Rubens Barrichello, Adrian Sutil, Bruno Senna, Vitaly Petrov and Jaime Alguersuari concentrated on the open Williams seat, Hispania has been forgotten. Even former Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari, who is probably bottom of the Williams list, has slammed Hispania saying “They would be a step backwards”
This could leave a door open for Garde to quietly slip in.
In 2006, Garde was added to McLaren’s young driver programme. He was a reserve driver at Super Aguri Formula One Team and Spyker F1 Team in 2007. In 2011, Garde was one of the few driver’s in the running for Virgins spare seat, But he was beaten to it by Jerome d’Ambrosio.
If he was to drive with Hispania, He would partner Pedro de la Rosa for the 2012 F1 season.
